Reiki for Animals and Their Caregivers

Reiki is a gentle, non-invasive Japanese energy therapy rediscovered by Mikao Usui in the early 20th century. It promotes relaxation, reduces stress and encourages the body’s natural healing processes. Pronounced “Ray-Key,” Reiki comes from Rei (spirit) and Ki (energy), often described as “universal life energy.” All living beings are made of energy. Reiki helps this energy to flow naturally, supporting physical comfort, emotional balance and relaxation.

As a qualified human and animal Reiki practitioner, I offer Reiki sessions for:

  • All animal species, to support relaxation, recovery and emotional regulation

  • Caregivers, to reduce stress and overwhelm, which can positively influence your animal's wellbeing

How Reiki Works

Reiki is a complementary therapy and works alongside veterinary care, rehabilitation and massage. Because it may be shared hands-off, it’s particularly helpful for dogs who are sensitive to touch or prefer more space. Reiki is based on the understanding that all living beings have an energetic aspect. Through training and attunement, the practitioner learns to channel this energy, allowing it to flow where it is needed. The practitioner is not using their own energy or forcing an outcome, but simply acting channel. Reiki encourages relaxation, reduces stress and supports your dog’s natural ability to restore balance. I often use it with senior dogs, those managing ongoing conditions and dogs approaching the end of life where gentle, non-invasive support can be especially valuable.

During a Session

  • A calm, safe space is created

  • Your animal or you choose how to engage. Sessions are fully consent-based

  • Reiki may be hands-on or hands-off, depending on preference

  • Follow your animal’s cues; if they want contact, offer it gently

Reiki for Caregivers

Caregiver stress directly affects the home environment and can influence animal behaviour. Supporting the caregiver is often an important part of supporting their animal. Reiki helps you to:

  • Reduce stress and physical tension

  • Process grief and anticipatory loss

  • Remain present with love without judgment or pressure

  • Strengthen your connection with your companion animal

  • Provide structured time for grounding and reflection

Many guardians notice that when they feel calmer and more regulated, their dogs appear calmer as well.

Reiki and End-of-Life Support and Transitions

Reiki can also be offered during end-of-life care and transitions, providing comfort and emotional support for both you and your animal.

  • Reiki helps your animal feel more relaxed and comfortable during their final days

  • Caregivers also benefit from Reiki, helping them stay grounded and emotionally steady

I provide final transition session free of charge, ensuring a compassionate, supportive space for your animal and your family during a sensitive time.
